A storm is set to hit Powys this evening with rain, thunder and even hail stones.

Ahead of the creeping weather warning, which will reach Powys over the weekend, some areas of Brecknockshire and Radnorshire are predicted to be pelted with hail stones this evening.

The areas around Knighton, Hay-on-Wye and Llanddewi Ystradenni are all predicted to experience hail during rush hour at 5pm.

Ystradfellte will start to experience hail at 7pm, meanwhile Llandrindod will receive hail at 8pm. Hail stone will return to Hay at 8pm and Ystradgynlais will experience hail stones at 10pm today.

The Met Office has put a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms in place for northern areas of Brecknockshire and Radnorshire.

The yellow weather warning, which covers Ireland from today and areas of England and north Wales from tomorrow, will creep down to Powys in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The areas around Builth Wells, Llandrindod Wells, and Rhayader are all covered by the Saturday weather warning which predicts some flooding, lightning strikes, poor road conditions and possible travel delay.

The yellow weather warning just misses Llanwrtyd Wells and Kington, however it will spread as Far East as Newtown.

While all of the county can expect heavy rain and showers, some areas are predicted to experience thunderstorms - even though they are not covered by the yellow weather warning.

Llandrindod is also predicted to experience thunderstorms at 3pm and 6pm tomorrow - Friday, August 6 - while, according to the Met Office, Builth will experience thunderstorms from 12pm until 1pm tomorrow, and Rhayader will experience thunderstorms at 3pm and 5pm.

Brecon, Crickhowell, Erwood and Talgarth will also experience lunchtime thunderstorms until around 2pm tomorrow, meanwhile the Llanddewi Ystradenni area is predicted to have thunderstorms at 3pm and 5pm, with Knighton having a thunderstorm at 6pm tomorrow.
