The 28th edition of the Brecon Beacons Food Festival took place on Saturday, October 4, and was another success despite the adverse weather conditions due to Storm Amy.

Festival organiser Andrew Powell said that numbers may have been down because of the weather, but believes sales were up with multiple food and drink businesses selling out on the day

More than 60 exhibitors displayed and sold an array of Welsh food and drink in Brecon Market Hall, with something for everyone who attended. Stalls offered everything from artisan cheeses and homemade bakes to craft ciders, gins and wines. Local businesses such as St Mary’s Bakery attended for the first time ever and sold out.

Visitors to the free-to-attend festival also enjoyed a full programme of live entertainment, thanks to seven performances from local choirs and singing groups. Brecon Choir, Builth Ladies Choir, Noteworthy, Affinity, Gracenotes, Dare to Sing, and Bluebells VE serenaded shoppers throughout the day.

Key organiser of the Brecon Beacons Food Festival Andrew Powell said: “The weather didn’t help, I would say the numbers were maybe 50 per cent down because of that, but most of the sales held up which tells a story of more buyers of Welsh food and drink turning out.

“The roof began to leak on Friday night, stage collapsed, steps broke, water here, there and everywhere but we fought through it. People loved the choirs, and music; most of the food and drink people were happy and want to come back next year.

“I’ve had feedback from a few of the businesses who have said food and drink sales across the country are down, but were very complimentary about the event. They didn’t expect anyone to be there on Saturday, so they were surprised how many people were there. On to next year!”
