A restaurant has presented a cheque for more than £600 to fundraisers from the Crickhowell branch of the Cancer Research Wales charity.

Staff at Foyles in Glasbury raised £630 from a Christmas raffle with local businesses and suppliers contributing prizes.

They had chosen to support the charity due to the illness affecting friends, family and customers.

Chairman of the Crickhowell branch Hazel Thomas thanked the team at Foyles for the “very generous” donation. The group has already planned a number of events for this year.

It will host a health awareness day at The Bear Hotel, Crickhowell on Tuesday, April 16 and a fashion show at the Manor Hotel, Crickhowell on Sunday, May 12. It has also planned a charity ball, in November, and to hold a golf day at Monmouthshire Golf Club.

Miss Thomas said: “The committee would like to thank their supporters for arranging events and donating the proceeds to the cancer charity. The committee has raised a significant amount of money over the last decade with your help. Many thanks to you all.”
