THE newly created Llandrindod Wells Pomarium now has a new welcoming sign to the site.

The community orchard project which was started nearly two years ago and covers an area of two and a half acres now has a signboard at its entrance so that people know what it is all about.

The sign explains the orchard project and the history of the site in both English and Welsh. It is a joint project between Friends of the Rock Park and Trawsnewid Llandrindod Transition, and is licensed by Powys council.

The orchard is situated on Alexandra playing fields, which are beside the Rock Park. The trees and bushes in the orchard have been sponsored or donated by local businesses, organisations and individuals.

Planting began in 2015, and the orchard now contains about 50 trees and 30 fruit bushes, growing apples, blackcurrants, cherries, damsons, figs, gooseberries, grapes, loganberries, pears, plums, raspberries, redcurrants, and much more. The fruit is available for everybody to pick.

The sign was unveiled by Councillor Sian Meredudd accompanied by Lucy Muir, Joseph Botting, Flo Greaves, David Strachan, and Hilary Macaulay, Chairman of the Friends of the Rock Park. The Pomarium team would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the orchard: sponsors, donors and planters.
