Slimming World groups in Brecon and Sennybridge are preparing for major updates to their weight-loss plan from January 2026, including saying goodbye to the term ‘Syns’ and introducing a new healthy fats category.
Jo Thomas, who runs the local groups, said: “Slimming World’s approach hasn’t changed since Margaret Miles-Bramwell OBE founded the company in 1969. Our ethos to inspire and motivate people to make positive mindset changes and develop lasting healthy habits around food and activity – all in a culture of care, respect and understanding is still as powerful today as it’s always been.
“Language matters, and we know the term ‘Syns’ is sometimes misunderstood or can be a barrier for people who want and need support to reach a healthy weight.”
From January, foods previously counted as Syns - including butter, sauces, chocolate and alcohol - will be renamed Swips, standing for Slimming World Individual Picks. Meanwhile, members will be encouraged to incorporate healthy fats such as nut butters and avocado into their weekly plan as part of a revised Healthy Extras scheme.
Jo, who became a Slimming World member herself in 2011, said: “No food has ever been banned at Slimming World and members have always been able to enjoy healthy fats. We hope though that designating these foods as a new Healthy Extra choice will increase members’ understanding of healthy eating and better support them to maintain their new eating habits long after they reach their target weight.”
Other updates include renaming ‘Body Magic’ to Slimming World’s active lifestyle programme and ‘IMAGE Therapy’ to the Slimming World support system. A refreshed logo will also be introduced.
The new plan will appear on Slimming World’s website and app from mid-December, and in printed member books from December 26. Anyone interested in joining can contact Jo at Sennybridge & Brecon Slimming World on 07411 891480.
