SNOWDROP the Sheep made a guest appearance with handler and church bellringer Mike Reynolds at the Blessing of the Lambing service in St Michael’s Church Llanfihangel Rhydithon.
Snowdrop munched her way through lamb nuts during the service and behaved impeccably. The Rev Rachael Storer talked about the families involved in the lambing and the difficult and long hours spent in the lambing sheds and the commitment to making sure the animals are safe and sheltered. She also remembered in the prayers the three Dolau shepherds – two brothers and a cousin – who perished in the snow fetching their sheep down from Radnor Forest in 1767 and whose grave is in the churchyard.
After the service, which hopefully will now be a regular feature on the church calendar, everyone went to the Dolau community hall for a pre-lambing roast beef lunch. The ladies of the church provided the puddings, cheese and coffee. A raffle, game and auction all added to the fun with proceeds going to church funds.
