Grateful residents of the Sennybridge and district area recently came together to show their appreciation to Malcolm Roberts who retired after 47 years as an electrician.

Malcolm had provided an excellent service to individuals, to businesses and to the community, through working with numerous voluntary organisations.

He and his wife Angela lived at Wernfigyn Cottage, which was renamed Ty Wrth y Glwyd.

On their recent retirement, they were sad to have to sell Ty Wrth y Glwyd to move to Pendine.

Malcolm’s Services as an electrician had been in great demand both for emergency repair work as well as the recurring of dwellings, farm buildings and barn conversions and wiring of new developments.

Malcolm’s amazing contribution to voluntary organisations is unique. For example, Maescar Community Hall, Sennybridge Show, Sennybridge Volutnary Stockmarket. His contribution to Sennybrdige Show was rewarded with his presidency when representing Trallong Community Council on the governing body of Cradoc CP School, Malcolm was instrumental in providing a desperately needed new car park, ensuring the greater safety of the children.

To mark his special contribution to the wider community, Malcolm was presented with a suitabley inscribed, framed photogragh of their beloved home for 47 years, Ty Wrth y Glwyd along side a large photograph album which captured exmaples of their activities over the years. Attached was a folder containing numerous letters of appreciation from individuals, businesses, and the voluntary organsiations who had benefitted from Malcolm’s supreme contribution over the length of time.

The special event was organised by Mrs Sue Robinson, Mr and Mrs David Lloyd and Mrs Marjorie Morgan.

The photograph album had been compiled by Mr David Davies, local photographer. Mr Evan Morgan, formally the long-standing councillor for the area, and who had worked closely with Malcolm on many of the voluntary organisations, made the presentation on behalf of the wider community.

He said: “This is a small token of our appreciation and will serve as a reminder of your invaluable contribution to the quality of the community life in this area.

“May you both enjoy a long, healthy, well-earned retirement. You are assured of a warm welcome whenever your return to this area in future years.”
