Public transport company Stagecoach has confirmed that the TrawsCymru T4 route through Brecon will no longer be operated by them.
The T4 bus route connects those in Merthyr Tydfil to Brecon, and is used by people to get to work.
Nicola Sofianos, a resident of Merthyr Tydfil, relies on the bus as it is her only way of transport to and from work. Speaking to The Brecon and Radnor Express, Nicola said: “If the above service is to be cut, there are several individuals at risk of losing their jobs due to these being no public transport. If there is no public transport from Merthyr to Brecon, this will have an impact on employment, tourism and mental health amongst individuals.”
Nicola uses the bus route daily.
However, Stagecoach has confirmed that another operator will take over.
A Stagecoach spokesperson said: “Following the conclusion of the tender process for the T4 route between Newtown and Merthyr, Stagecoach will no longer operate the TrawsCymru service.
“The T4 service between Merthyr and Newtown will continue under a new operator, who is expected to be announced shortly by Transport for Wales. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our passengers for their continued support and hope to welcome them onboard another Stagecoach service soon.
“We can confirm that there will be no job losses at Stagecoach as a result of this change. Our dedicated drivers will continue to serve our customers across other routes in South Wales.”
Transport for Wales has been approached for comment.
