THESE are the photographs taken by Brecon’s Roads Policing Unit that show a car that overturned after its driver tried to avoid a pheasant.

Amazingly three people climbed out of the Ford Fiesta, which ended up on its roof at the roadside, with the only injury suffered a graze to the driver’s elbow.

Despite the driver’s desperate attempt to avoid hitting the pheasant the game bird did not survive after being struck by the Ford Fiesta on the A438 near the Brilley junction on the Powys/Herefordshire border just before 8am this morning

The driver, a 33-year-old man from the Gwent area, and two male passengers had been travelling to work.

Dyfed Powys Police officers tweeted the photographs on their Brecon Roads Policing Twitter account, stating: "RTC this morning. One swerved to avoid the other and not the best outcome for either party."

PC Gareth Evans, from the RPU, said: "A witness saw the pheasant and saw the car swerve to avoided it, and unfortunately it ended up as it did.

"The driver and his two passengers were shaken by it.

"Members of the public helped direct the traffic until we got there, and one lane remained open."
