A top boss at Powys council’s troubled social services department wants to quit the authority, it has been reported.

The council’s head of adult services Louise Barry has "expressed her intention" to leave the council, BBC Wales has reported.

Adult services in Powys are facing an inspection after the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CCSIW) last week issued a report highlighting serious failings in the council’s children’s services department.

The councillor in charge of adult social care, cabinet member Stephen Hayes, is reported by the BBC to have said she wants to leave the authority.

Cllr Hayes described Ms Barry as "very professional and very competent" and said he would like her to stay with the council. He is also reported as saying it would be "premature to say she has resigned".

The council said it can’t comment on individual employment contracts. But it has confirmed chief executive Jeremy Patterson is currently off sick.

The council’s chief financial officer David Powell is the council’s acting chief executive.

The council has a number of vacant senior post with the director of social services and head of children’s services positions both currently filled by interim appointments.

The council’s previous head of children’s services, Carolann James, left in July after 11 months in the job.
