Brecon High School is celebrating another strong set of GCSE results, with around a third of Year 11 pupils achieving five A*-A grades.

The school said the results marked a third consecutive year of improvement in the proportion of pupils achieving the highest GCSE grades, as well as a third year of improved Capped 9 performance.

Among the top performers were Diana Butnaru and Robin Irwin, who both achieved a Capped 9 score of 522.

Diana achieved 12 A* grades and a Distinction, while Robin achieved 11 A* grades, an A grade and a Distinction.

Soing Limbu achieved a Capped 9 score of 519, with eight A* grades, four A grades and a Distinction.

Tomos Saunders-Jones and Elin Griffiths both achieved scores of 516. Tomos gained eight A* grades and five A grades, while Elin achieved 10 A* grades, two A grades and a Distinction.

William Griffith, Connie Hyde and also achieved Capped 9 scores of 516.

William gained eight A* grades, three A grades, a B grade and a Distinction, while Connie achieved eight A* grades, three A grades and a B grade.

Isla Johnson, Seren Jones and Aled Williams each achieved a Capped 9 score of 513.

Isla achieved seven A* grades, five A grades and a Distinction, while Seren gained seven A* grades, three A grades, two B grades and a Distinction. Aled achieved seven A* grades, five A grades and a Distinction.

Headteacher Rob Edwards said the school was delighted with the results and praised the hard work of pupils, staff and families.

He said: “We are delighted that around a third of our students achieved 5 A*-A grades and that we have secured a third consecutive year of improvement in both our highest GCSE grades and Capped 9 performance.

“Sustained improvement over three years is a significant achievement and reflects the hard work, resilience and ambition of our students, the dedication of our staff and the support of our families.”

“We are incredibly proud of what our young people have achieved and the opportunities these results will create for their futures."

Chair of Governors Rhiannon Evans said the results reflected the “sustained progress” being made across the school.

She said achieving improved outcomes for a third consecutive year was “a significant milestone” and praised the commitment of pupils, staff and families.

Many of the school’s Year 11 pupils will now continue their education through Chweched Powys/Powys Sixth, with academic and vocational courses available leading to university, apprenticeships and employment

Applications remain open, with the sixth form welcoming enquiries from existing and external students.
