A Powys town has been named the happiest place to live in Wales for the third year running.

Llandrindod Wells came out on top of the Welsh list, and even managed an impressive fifth place on the UK-wide rankings.

Every year property and real estate portal Rightmove compiles a ‘Happy at Home’ index to create a list of the happiest places to live across the UK. Residents submit data on their website, which includes rating where they live based on 10 ‘happiness’ measures.

These include a sense of community spirit, a sense of belonging, friendly and polite people, sports and cultural activities, local services and amenities, nature and green spaces, and residents feeling ‘able to be themselves’.

Hexham in Northumberland has been named the happiest place in the UK to live in the rankings and the Llandrindod Wells appears at number five.

The only other Welsh places to appear in the top 20 UK list are Monmouth at number seven and the whole of Anglesey at number nine.

This is the third year running that the Powys spa town has topped the Welsh rankings.

Cllr Laurence Weerdmeester-Price, Mayor of Llandrindod Wells and Chairman of Llandrindod Wells Town Council, said its not difficult to see why the town is such a great place to live:

Cllr Weerdmeester-Price said: “It was great to see that yet again Llandrindod Wells has been voted the happiest place to live in Wales and 5th overall in the UK.

“When I came to live here four years ago I was unaware of all its charms but fell for its wonderful countryside.

“However, it didn’t take long to realise just how great this town is and it continues to improve with town council striving for more facilities.

“I have witnessed first-hand the community spirit throughout the Covid pandemic and the sense of belonging.

“The town’s amenities such as the Lake Park, Rock Park, Princes Avenue Leisure Park, the new Nature Garden within Temple Gardens and the Pavilion Mid Wales to name just a few, not to mention the natural green spaces and walks in the area.

“To be fair, it’s not difficult to see why it’s such a wonderful and happy place to visit and live,” he added.
