A FOOTBALL club targeted by vandals is appealing for donations to fund security fencing.

Damage was caused to the Hay St Mary's Brecon Road ground in July, three days before it was due to host a charity football match to support an appeal to buy a specialist brain scanner for Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital, after one of its players, Jack Keylock, received treatment there.

TVandals jumped on the roof of the dugout causing it to split, kicked through parts of the stand and scraped part of the club’s ’Saints’ nickname off the stands.

To have the club’s name printed back on the stand in bold green had cost £200 and its dugouts had cost £700 to buy.

Now, the club that plays in the Spar Mid Wales League, is hoping to raise money to install security fencing around the ground in order to prevent further damage.

Pru Whitworth, assistant manager of the Hay St Mary's ladies team, said: "We want to protect the ground so the future generation are able to carry on playing here. The new stand is being installed at the end of August and we want to put up the security fencing to stop the damage happening again."

The club is also awaiting the installation of a new £30,000 stand which will include a catering area and an area for fans to watch the game from inside.

Ms Whitworth said: "We want to expand and improve the ground but don’t want people coming and causing damage again. A crowdfunding page has been set up with a target of £3,000.

"We need to raise between £2,000 and £3,000 for the fencing, Anything that’s left over we are hoping to put towards CCTV so we have extra security protection. We want to make the ground as secure as possible."
