Three Cocks Matters Community Group has shared the initial landscape designs for green spaces and play areas in the village and they are looking for feedback by local residents to progress their plans.

A spokesperson for Three Cocks Matters Community Group said: "As part of the ongoing efforts by Three Cocks Matters Community Group (TCMCG) to enhance our community, we are excited to share the initial landscape designs for our green spaces and play areas, a pivotal step in our journey to rejuvenate our community's outdoor areas.

"TCMCG has been dedicated to developing and enriching our community spaces. Thanks to significant funding dedicated to this project, we now have the unique opportunity to redesign our green spaces and play areas, ensuring they meet the needs and desires of all ages within our community."

In August 2022, Talgarth and District Regeneration Group commissioned Ludicology to carry out a localised play sufficiency assessment across the rural communities of Woodlands Avenue in Talgarth, Gwernyfed Avenue and Gwernyfed Park in Three Cocks, and the village of Llanigon.

A concept plan for improvements to the Top and Bottom Parks at Three Cocks was produced. In October 2023 Reckless Orchard Landscape Design Consultants was asked by Three Cocks Matters to progress the project at Gwernyfed Park and Gwernyfed Avenue.

Guided by the results of the Ludicology report, and the previous community input, the designers at Reckless Orchard set about developing possible design ideas. These were presented at a community engagement workshop at Gwernyfed Walled Garden on Saturday, December 2.

Key elements of the new design for the wider landscape at the Top Park include: a re-equipped existing play area, new climbing structures and slides, items of play equipment, simple bridges across the existing ditch and woodland planting to create a ‘jungle’ to explore, a grass amphitheatre for events with a timber stage/dipping platform, shelters, a Boules court, new woodland planting to help screen the main road and industrial estate, community orchards, and wildflower meadows.

Key Elements for the Top Park closer to home include: Pocket Parks, new enclosed, garden areas all around the flats, with new bin stores, shrub and hedge planting, summerhouse and pergola, planting of specimen trees with spring blossom and autumn colour, shrub and ground cover planting and traditional metal estate railings.

Key Elements for the Bottom Park in the village include: a multi use games area (MUGA), outdoor gym equipment, a play space for younger children, a community garden with raised beds and gravel paths, decorative planting, and water and electricity supply to the community garden.

The community group are inviting local residents to review the initial designs. They described possible feedback as "crucial in ensuring these spaces reflect our community’s aspirations."

Final alterations will be made to address key concerns or gaps raised before a final design is completed and shared through a community event 15th March 2024.

Three Cocks Matters Community Group are in discussion with Powys Housing who support this project and the group aims to gain their feedback to these plans as well.

A spokesperson for Three Cocks Matters said: "We realise the design stage is the easy part in comparison to securing the funding to build these plans. However, this will be a massive step towards this goal.

"Thank you for taking the time to contribute to this important community project. Your input will help shape a vibrant and inclusive future for Three Cocks."

The deadline for feedback from the Three Cocks community is midday on the 7th of February.
