Llangattock Community Council has dipped into its reserves to part fund new speeding limits at three known trouble spots in the village.
Road Traffic Orders are normally paid for solely by Powys County Council’s Highways Authority, but after negotiations between parties it was agreed that the village’s community council would offer financial support towards the project.
The pictured image shows one of the new 40mph ‘buffer’ zones, situated before entering the main 30mph zone through village from the Hillside Road. There is another buffer as traffic enters The Legar and a new 30mph through the Dardy.
It is hoped that these measures and the newly installed signage, the last of which was put up last week, will reduce traffic speeds and increase safety in and around the village.
County Councillor for Llangattock, Jackie Charlton, said:
“I am delighted to see this happening in a partnership between the innovative approach offered by the County Council through negotiation with myself and Llangattock Community Council.
“The Community Council decided to accept the challenge of raising funds to support the payment of three Road Traffic Orders for the price of one. Powys County Council has only been able to fund Road Traffic Orders in emergencies or for major road improvements leaving local communities bereft of any support for changing speed limits. This will make the entry into Llangattock safer and reduces the speed in 3 areas around the village.
“It’s brilliant to see how working together can provide the changes needed and improve on safety.”
