CRICKHOWELL Labour Party Branch recently welcomed Vaughan Gething, Welsh Government Cabinet Secretary for Health Well Being and Sport, to the Parish Hall in Crickhowell.

The revival of the Branch ensured a big turn out and a packed hall. The event was held as part of the continuing revitalisation of the Branch. Over the past year the membership has grown significantly in Crickhowell, with people joining or re-joining for the hope of real change that the Party now offers. More people are joining every month. Crickhowell Branch has a proud history of Party activity and the members from earlier days have been very welcoming and helpful to the newcomers. Members also meet at the ‘Politics and Pints’ evenings held in a local pub.

The Health Secretary spoke with honesty about the challenges for the Welsh Government in both Health and Social Care services throughout Wales. He talked of the need to achieve fully integrated services; improving pre-emptive care and support and creating more community accessible services.

He described the achievement of the Welsh Government in actively investing money into the Welsh Health Service, the largest amount going into Mental Health and the opt-out organ donation system. He also discussed the idea of the Welsh Government using powers available to fund social care in Wales, including a Social Care Levy. There were many follow up questions from the lively audience and the general agreement at the end of the evening was that the event had been a great success. More events are in the pipeline.
