STORM Dennis is set to hit this weekend with very heavy rain and strong winds forecast across mid Wales.

The Met Office has issued multiple weather warnings for wind and rain across Wales for Saturday and Sunday, including an amber rain warning issued for the whole of mid Wales from 12pm Saturday until 3pm on Sunday that is expected to bring “very heavy rain, flooding and disruption to travel.”

AccuWeather meteorologists have described Storm Dennis as a “bomb cyclone” and suggested that Wales could receive between 2-4 inches of rainfall.

With much of the ground still saturated after Storm Ciara last weekend, officials have warned of the significant impacts from flooding, including “damage to property and a danger to life from fast flowing floodwater.”

Met Office Chief Meteorologist, Steve Willington, said: “Our advice is to keep an eye on the latest weather forecast and weather warning for your area and to follow the safety advice from officials.”

The Mid and West Wales Fire Service’s Powys Command have urged people to follow all warnings and to not drive through floodwater.
