Powys residents woke up this morning to find that more snow had settled in the higher areas of Powys over night.

A yellow warning covering the whole of Powys was issued by the Met Office from around midnight last night until midday today.

The Met Office has warned that as well as snow in higher areas, such as around the Storey Arms near the A470, there is a chance of heavy sleet, hail and widespread ice on pavements, cycle paths and roads.

While no roads have been closed as a result of the snow, Brecon Road’s Policing Unit have issued a warning on Twitter to drivers who are looking to brave the wintry conditions.

They said: "Please drive carefully today. Road conditions are hazardous on main trunk roads and smaller roads as a result of snow and ice. Drive to the conditions and if not urgent avoid travelling at all."

All public transport is still running to schedule for the time being.

Powys County Council tweeted at 9am this morning to say that waste and recycling collections would be disrupted by the weather.

They said: "Waste and recycling collections will be disrupted today due to snow / ice on the rural routes. We will do our best to get to those missed collections as soon as possible."

Crickhowell Primary School has closed due to the weather, however no other schools have reported closing so far.

Brecon Mountain Rescue Team have also put out a warning on Twitter, including photos, to people looking to travel to Brecon to experience the snow in the National Park.

They said: "Be prepared if walking in the #BreconBeacons or other high ground in #Wales this weekend. Snow is already on the ground with more tomorrow & Sunday and rain on Saturday increasing ice on paths. Pop into one of the great outdoor shops and treat yourself to spikes or crampons."
