FOLLOWING the 177 miles alongside the English/Welsh border alongside the 8th Century Offa’s Dyke has been challenging the staff, volunteers and friends of Llandrindod-based arts organisation Celf o Gwmpas.
Supporters of Celf o Gwmpas are walking sections of the Offa’s Dyke trail each year as a challenge in order to raise essential funds allowing the arts organisation to continue running arts courses that reach out to those suffering with the mental illness of dementia.
The charity which celebrates its 21st birthday next year, also has a well-known history of working with adults with learning disabilities.
Celf o Gwmpas chief executive Kayte Phillips, who was also one of the walkers, said: “I am so proud of all the fundraising walkers and our support crew.
“They did such a fantastic job this weekend walking Offa’s Dyke path in some real wet and windy weather.”
As well as using traditional sponsorship forms, the Celf o Gwmpas walkers also took donations through the website and via text and kept supporters up to date with posts on social media as they tackled the challenge. Kayte said: “We have an ambitious target of £1,000 and are still taking sponsorship, so you can help us reach our target by texting OFFA17 £5 to 70070, we really appreciate every single donation made.” Donations are still coming in and the final figure is still to be announced.
Celf o Gwmpas continues to generate and create through an international pioneering training and workshop programme, gallery exhibitions, screenings and performances, working towards social inclusion, inspiring artistic ambition and providing a resource for the wider community.
