October 1925 was an exciting month across the UK which saw a major technological breakthrough when John Logie Baird successfully transmitted the first television images in London, marking the birth of modern television. This pioneering experiment laid the foundation for future broadcasting.

Socially, Britain was experiencing shifts in transport and media, with the BBC expanding its radio services, helping unify the nation through shared broadcasts and news. It was a month of innovation and transformation - nowhere less than in the villages of Trallong and Penpont where a group of women met for the first meeting of their newly formed WI branch

Late last month Trallong and Penpont WI marked the October 25 anniversary with a tea at Trallong village hall.

Former and current members attended and were joined by the Trustees of the Federation. A flowering cherry tree was planted at Trallong village hall before the afternoon tea was enjoyed. The celebration cake was cut by Linda Matthews, and guests of honour Barbara Jones and Valerie Williams. Certificates were presented to long -serving members; 25 years - Jackie Williams; 30 years - Linda Matthews; 40 years - Mary Adams, Megan Jones and Lisa Prosser; 50 years; – Mary Robinson and 60 years - Barbara Jones and Valerie Williams.

The toast to the future of Trallong and Penpont was proposed by Lesley Price (Federation President), Linda Matthews (president) proposed the toast to absent friends and the Loyal Toast was proposed by Dyddanwy Pugh (Federation Secretary).

Thanks to Linda Matthews (president) and Mary Robinson (vice president) for the speeches and Truly Scrumptious catering and Camera and Co photographers. Great fun was had by all.

New members of the group are always welcome and anyone interesting in joining can call 07304086040 for more information. The next meeting (AGM and talk about Mexico) is to be held at Trallong Hall on Wednesday, November 5 at 7pm.
