THE area final of the Rotary Young Musician 2018, took place at the Wyeside Arts Centre, Market Theatre, Builth Wells on Saturday February 10.

The event was hosted by members of the Builth Wells Rotary Club.

Previous local heat winners from club competitions in Abergavenny, Abertillery and Blaina, Builth Wells and Crickhowell competed against each other in the two categories of instrumental and vocal.

The standard of singing and playing was excellent. Amy Cromie from Builth High School came first in the instrumental section (piano), with Gabriel Kennedy from Crickhowell. High School as runner up (piano).

In the vocal section first place went to Ben Baker from King Henry V111 School, Abergavenny with Nia Roles from Newbridge School, Abertillery as runner up.

The winners now progress to the Rotary District Final, which will be held in Black-wood on Saturday, March 10.
