THE Elan Valley 10 mile road race, took place on Saturday, November 18.

The weather on the Saturday morning was wet and cold but improved and the race was run in much better conditions.

There were 162 runners from all over Wales and the Border region, together with a group from Coventry and Nuneaton in the West Midlands.

Numbers for the race were a little down on previous years, with the weather having an effect.

The race also clashed with the British and Irish Masters International cross country race being held in Newry, Northern Ireland.

A number of Welsh runners were taking part, including representatives from the Rhayader RC, Mike Warrick and Joanne Rees.

Paul Jones, a long term club member, started the race and all those competing, finished.

The first male to finish was Daniel Bodman (Aberdare AC) in an excellent time of 55.36 minutes and he was followed home by Jon Bowie (Telford AC) and Rob Johnson (Aberyswyth AC).

The first female to finish was Kate Stubbs (Non affiliated) in a time of 73.42 minutes, closely followed by Jenny Evans (Maldwyn Harriers) and Kelly Bowen (Croft Ambrey RC).

The race formed part of the East Wales Clubs Road Race Championship and Rhayader RC female team was first, followed by Builth Wells RC and Fairwater Runners Cwmbran.

The male team event was won by Spirit of Monmouth RC with Rhayader RC second followed by Fairwater Runners Cwmbran.

These results placed Rhayader RC first overall in the league.
