ARTHUR Thompson, who about seven years ago was the centre manager, has recently been appointed as the development officer for the Radnor Indoor Stadium.

Arthur has the distinction of being an advanced bowling coach so has all the qualifications for his new role.

Speaking about his new role he said: "I see this task as encouraging present and recruiting new members, helping the club’s finances by organising competitions and events and generally helping the club which recently celebrated its 25th anniversary to flourish in the future. I also intend to attract different local organisations such as schools, Young Farmers Clubs and hope to help disabled bowlers."

In the last three years as a keen member of the club, Arthur has assisted by putting on different competitions such as the random pairs on a Tuesday and triples on a Friday, which have been well supported.

These competitions have also taken place in the summer months, when in the past the club closed or had very restricted opening hours. It is Arthur’s intention to open for more hours in the close season, for example 12 noon until 5pm Tuesdays to Fridays, and keep people interested.

He also wishes to encourage short mat bowlers to play in the summer months. All the above means the club running more events and securing needed finances for the Radnorshire Indoor Bowling Association.

Arthur intends running free coaching sessions between 11am and 1pm on Tuesdays, and he would welcome any individuals or groups who wish to participate. There will also be free coaching and taster sessions on open days.

The new development officer is also arranging a social event at the Radnor Indoor Club on Monday December 21 from 6.30pm until late.

This will be an evening of ’Christmas Entertainment’, with Rhayader and District Male Voice Choir, plus a seasonal quiz with fun and prizes, prior to the main act. Tickets are five pounds. Patrons are invited to bring their own food and share but the bar will be open for drinks. The raffle prize is a Christmas hamper.
