BRIAN Dennis, resident of Llanigon and proprietor of Denis Motorsport, celebrated his recent 80 birthday in style by winning the upto 2000cc Sports Libre class in his highly modified Mini.

Brecon Motor Club held its annual two event hillclimb weekend on the Epynt Ranges last weekend. Under very mixed weather conditions all competitors had an enjoyable time with marshals and officials helping to deliver two days of outstanding competition.

Fastest time of the day on both days was achieved by Abergavenny resident Martin Watts in his kit-based and extensively refashioned Sylvia Stryker.

Local drivers, with a range of competitive driving experience, enjoyed one or two days fine competition. Lisa Chappelle, competing on both days in the family Mini, albeit not exactly as it left the factory, was pleased with her performance in spite of a couple of scary moments.

Phil Jones from Groesffordd also competed on both days winning his class in his Subaru Impreza on Saturday and sharing son Craig’s BMW 3-series Compact on Sunday with Craig achieving the faster time.

Mark Hatton from Brecon, having spent a year building and developing a Renault Clio for rallying, tested out his creation on Sunday. Apart from minor issues, the car ran well and, after some fine-tuning, will be out competing again later in the year.

Two Brecon Motor Club members made their competition debut on Sunday’s hillclimb. Jake Harbour from Llangorse had a spirited drive in his Toyota MR2 and was delighted with his inaugural performance.

Likewise, Liam Griffiths from Llyswen, drove his 1.9-litre Peugeot 205 GTI with verve on his first competitive outing. Each improved their performance run after run and it became evident that the competition bug had truly bitten both.
