BRECON Cricket Club 1st team away at Welsh Asians saw the home team elect to bat on winning the toss but they could only total 180 for 8.

Richard Lovering did the main damage with the ball for Brecon with 4 for 32. He received support from Matt Williams (2 for 32) with the other wickets falling to John Kenchington (1 for 19) and a run out executed by Gethin Phillips.

Brecon’s reply was positive from the start with James Davenport (36) and Matt Williams (32) providing the ground work. Richard Lovering then wasted no time in building on this base with a classy 78no and with Gethin Phillips (11no) saw Brecon over the line with 18 overs in hand.

The win puts the 1st team in with a real chance of promotion which was enhanced by third place Cardiff Gym losing on Saturday and with a game in hand Brecon are only nine points behind leaders Malpas and 15 points a head of Cardiff Gym.

At home, the Brecon 2nd team put in another resounding performance to record a five wicket victory with visitors Monmouth batting first only totalled 102 all out.

The visitors could make little progress against Brecon’s opening bowlers Fin Starkey (2 for 21) and John Cooke 1 for 9 with 5 maidens included. Derek Osborne (3 for 13), Ryan Morgan (2 for 23) and Mark Waldeck (1 for 7) completed the destruction.

Brecon powered past the required total in 17 over’s with Rhys Pritchard (31), Simon Wood (28) and youngster Sean Waldeck 22no impressing, being the main contributors.

The 2nd team are now 13 points clear of second placed Monkswood and 49 points clear of the third team Creigiau with only three games remaining.
