The weather was the only winner on the final day of the Worcester Cricket League Division Seven (South) season as Builth Wells saw their match at Barnards Green abandoned, writes Paul Worts.
The game was reduced to 30 overs a side but ended with the home side on 104 for 2 from 21 overs when the rain set in. Dylan McPhee (1-4) and Samuel Avis (1-29) were the wicket takers.
Builth picked up six points and it was enough to secure a third-place finish, overtaking Amigos Kempsey, who conceded their game against League Champions, Woolhope.
It has been another successful season for the Garth Road men with captain, Dylan McPhee leading from the front. The inspirational skipper has played every game and ended top runscorer and wicket taker. His wicket on Saturday took his tally to 35 for the season while wiley veteran, Martin Hurst has also had an outstanding campaign with the ball snaring 31 victims. Musa Makhubela took 24 wickets, despite being a little wayward at times, and Sujeewa Senarathne 21.
Wales Over 40s International Mcphee also led the batters scoring 692 runs with Tim Richards (570) topping the 500 mark. Serathne (411) and Aled Powell (407) also made decent contributions. McPhee made the top individual score, 203 against Bartestree, and also passed three figures on another occasion while there were centuries too for Richards (2), Senarathne and Powell.
