Brecon 2nds 275-2 Llantwit Fadre 180 all out.
THERE were memorable feats as Brecon second team recorded a comfortable 95 run victory at home to Llantwit Fadre last Saturday.
A brilliant club record breaking unbeaten stand of 214 runs was witnessed between the prolific Steve Kenchington (120no) and promising all rounder Ben Kenchington (75no), recording his first League half century, which ensured victory for the home club and sent records tumbling in a blitz of fours and sixes.
The pairs superb batting, which surpassed the previous club record stand of 204, put the visitors’ bowling attack completely to the sword, perhaps more accurately to the bat, in a total of 275 for 2 for Brecon. Llantwit’s reply failed to get anywhere near the required run rate, which was totally understandable given the run rate set by Brecon and ended on 180 all out.
Among the wickets for Brecon were Derek Osborne 2 for 43, Ben Kenchington 1 for 28, showing his all round qualities, Tom Dando 3 for 34, bowling excellently on his welcome return to Club colours and Steve Kenchington 2 for 9, with a wicket from his first ball.
Keiron Calvert and Sean Waldeck, coming up from the junior section, made excellent debuts in senior cricket for the home team, both fielded well and put in solid bowling performances on a day everyone who was there it will remember for a long time.
The club’s first team early season trials continued with at 86 run reverse away at Cardiff Gymkhana.
In Cardiff the Gym batted first and set an imposing 256 all out for Brecon to chase, which proved beyond them despite a resolute knock from Greg Webber which ended disappointingly for him on 90 depriving him of a richly deserved century.
He received excellent support from Gethin Phillips (35) but for the second week running the innings did not really mount a challenge to the very competitive total set by the opposition.
For Brecon with the ball Matt Williams with 3 for 32 continued his wicket taking start to the season, Sam Williams (2 for 31) and Iain Mitchell (2 for 38) were also in the wickets. The fielding was again of a high quality, which gave captain Sam Williams some consolation, highlighted by Rhys Pritchard taking an outstanding boundary catch.
