BUILTH Wells Cricket Club held their annual dinner and awards evening at the Three Wells Hotel, Howey last weekend; talented batsman Sam Williams and youngster Ben Cripps taking the plaudits.

Number three batsman Williams collected the First Team Batsman of the Year award whilst his magnificent 121 not out against Goodrich earned him the inaugural Gerald Morgan Best Innings Award. Meanwhile the promising Cripps collected both the Second Team and the Sunday Team Bowler of the Year awards.

Unsurprisingly he was also named Young Player of the Year.

Other winners on the night included wicketkeeper turned bowler Darren Laurie being named First Team Bowler of the Year. Three Wells proprietor Jonny Corzon claimed the Second Team Batsman of the Year award with Aled Powell being awarded Sunday Team Batsman of the Year.

During the evening Club Chairman Steve Powell paid tribute to retiring captains Adam Cook and Tom Childs; praising their efforts during what had been a difficult season.

As is tradition the annual meeting was held on the night following the awards evening.

Chairman Steve Powell said long term injuries, absentees had made 2016 a difficult year. He praised all for their efforts whilst calling for even more commitment next season.

It will be all change on the field as the multi talented sportsman Sam Williams steps up to captain the First team.

Alongside him as vice captain will be promising opening bat Aled Powell. Meanwhile the experienced Stuart Cripps will lead what is expected to be a mainly young, developmental second team with Steve Anderson continuing as vice Captain.

Off the field it is business as usual with Steve Powell starting a fifth term as chairman ably assisted by Secretary Mike Williams and treasurer Richard Galton.

It promises to be an exciting 2017 at Garth Road and new players are welcome to take part.
