Brecon CC 2nds 226-9 Crumlin CC 2nds 113-10 .
WITH the first team game being called off only Brecon Cricket Club second team saw action with a home encounter with Crumlin seconds last weekend.
Batting first, Brecon posted an imposing 226 for 9 in an innings totally dominated by a brilliant knock of 95 runs from Rhys Prichard with powerful shots to all parts of the ground in an performance which underlines his massive potential.
Along the way he received excellent support from Terry Dickson (25) in a stand of 67 and then with Brian Skinner (27) of 70 runs as the total reached imposing proportions.
Wickets fell rapidly towards the end of the innings as the Brecon batsmen pushed to get the maximum runs possible from the innings. By then however all the damage to Crumlins hopes had been done principally by Rhys Pritchard’s epic innings.
All of which left captain John Cooke happy with the efforts of his batsmen in putting the home team in such a commanding position at the halfway stage.
Crumlin launched their reply with a very buccaneering approach and runs flowed at a concerning rate for the home team and despite making a break through with a run out and then wickets for John Cooke (2 for 20) and Daffyd Edwards (1 for 29) the momentum of the innings was not slowed.
However the introduction of spin saw fortunes shift rapidly as Crumlin wickets tumbled and a collapse ensued. From 94 for 4 the innings really became unglued as it fell away to 113 all out.
Doing the damage for Brecon were Gwyn Price (4 for 17) and Mark Waldeck (2 for 9) and what had looked like being a difficult afternoon for Brecon at one stage ended with a convincing 113 run victory achieved in only 23 overs.
Credit must go to Crumlin for the spirit they played the game in but on the day Brecon will be happy to have picked up maximum points and retained their 14 point lead at the top of the league.
This week will see Ebbw Vale CC the opponents for both Brecon teams with the first team at home and the second team visiting the Steelmen.
