GLANGRWYNEY 1st team retained their Division one status on Saturday in a must win game with an emphatic 10 wicket victory at Ledbury.

With rain a continual threat, the cricket god smiled on Glangrwyney captain Mike Devoy, when he called correctly at the toss, and had no hesitation in asking Ledbury to bat, knowing that bowling them out cheaply and chasing down the runs was the way to go.

Opening the bowling, Devoy and partner Nicky Jones ripped through the Ledbury top order, the first two wickets falling without a run on the board.

None of Ledbury’s top seven reached double figures, with only Jamie Turner (17), Maurice Embrey(16), and last man Paul Allen(13) showing any resistance. Ledbury ending up 86 all out, Devoy picking up a five wicket haul, and Nicky Jones four wickets, Ryan Sharp finishing off the Ledbury innings.

In reply, Glangrwyney openers Devoy (52no), and Ryan Sharp (32no) showed no mercy on the Ledbury bowlers, reaching the target in the 10 over, Mike Devoy reaching his 50 and finishing the match with a towering six, and beating the rain. Ledbury must be thanked for their efforts in making the ground playable and getting the game played.

At Glangrwyney, the second team were in action against Hay on Wye. Put in, Glangrwyney lost two early wickets before Lewis Morgan (56) and Paul Daniell (39) steadied proceedings with an 82 run partnership. James McIlroy maintained the momentum, adding 36 with Morgan, and 24 with Simon Hindle.

Hindle and Jonty Jones seeing the innings to its close at 165-5. For Hay, Burgess picked up two wickets, with Evans-Bevan, and Moore one apiece.

With tea taken, the heavens opened and eventually the captains agreed conditions were not going to improve, and shook hands, the game abandoned, and the cricket god deciding he had done his bit for the day with the first team.
