FOLLOWING a successful 2017 season in which he was crowned the National MTB Grand Veteran Champion, Cycle Club Abergavenny rider Tim Davies, from Crossgates, has seen an equally good start to the 2018 season with a number of excellent race performances this spring.

Davies, resplendent in his National Grand Veteran MTB Champion’s jersey, got his 2018 season off to a flying start with victory in round one of the National MTB Cross Country Points Series at Sherwood Pines, in March.

Several weeks later at one of Britain’s largest off-road events, “Battle on the Beach”, held in Carmarthenshire, Davies was 28th overall and clinched the Grand Veteran category honours around a challenging course that takes in the beach, sand dunes and forestry tracks of Pembrey Country Park.

In the previous evening’s “Battle in the Dark” event Davies also placed a fine eighth seeing off many younger competitors to secure a top ten finish.

The following weekend at the National MTB Cross Country Points Series at Dalby, and reminiscent of the Nineties professional MTB racing scene, Davies raced to second place in the Grand Veteran category conceding victory to Tim Gould.

The end of April saw Davies return to Pembrey Country Park for round one of the Welsh MTB Cross Country Series and he duly delivered a victory in the Grand Veteran category race.

The fine racing form that Davies has shown has clearly positively influenced his two sons, Oscar and Spencer.

They have attained excellent results racing in the Under 12 and Youth categories, most notably in the Welsh MTB Cross Country Series where Oscar placed fourth in the Under 12 category and Spencer seventh in the Youth category races.
