MMP Mid Wales League Division One
Caersws 3 Radnor Valley 0
A TOP of the table Tuesday night clash saw Caersws inflict a 3-0 defeat on Mid Wales League Division One surprise package Radnor Valley.
This was the first ever competitive fixture between the sides as Caersws, who have represented Wales in Europe’s Intertoto Cup and have twice lifted the Welsh Premier League Cup, have found themselves playing in the third tier of Welsh football for the first time since formation of the domestic pyramid in 1992.
The Goats, who were playing in the Mid Wales South League just over three years ago, have risen through the divisions and shown good form in the early season to be second in table, having lead the league in September.
Both goalkeepers were tested early one but the Bluebirds broke the deadlock shortly before half-time when former Montgomery Town Striker Elliot Jones found the far corner of the net.
Elliot Morris and Callum Davies failed to take advantage of the chances the Goats created in the remaining minutes of the half.
The second goal came on 70 minutes when Phil Jones, who’d seen his 25-yard free kick hit the defensive wall, gathered the loose ball to fire past Radnor keeper Zeke Vivian.
Rhydian Davies scored the host’s third goal two minutes from time to secure a victory that moved the Bluebirds seven points clear of their New Radnor visitors, who have a game in hand, at the top of the table.
