BRECON Corries are looking to book their place in the fourth round of the Welsh Cup when they travel to Cardiff on Saturday.

The Corries, of the South Wales Alliance League Premier division, face defending Welsh League Division One champions Caerau Ely in a 1.30pm kick-off.

The Young Guns staged an open top bus tour of the capital, from their Cwrt yr Ala base in Ely, to celebrate their championship last year but were unable to take their place in the Welsh Premier League as they lacked the required domestic club licence.

This season Caerau have struggled and sit just two places off the bottom of the division. They are one place below Aberbargoed Buds who the Corries defeated three nil at the Rich Field back in October to set up this third round tie.

The sides are separated by three division in the South Wales football pyramid but there will be familiarity. Corries player manager Damien Daniels previously played under Caerau boss Nanah Baah at Bridgend Town in the Welsh League.

The Corries’ cup run, which started way back in August in the regional qualifying rounds, has given the club sustained exposure.

The Football Association of Wales online TV station visited the Corries ahead of their second round tie while chairman Barrie Jones this week featured as a guest on the FAW’s Welsh Cup podcast.

Jones told listeners the club, one of the two lowest rank teams remaining in the competition, is ’always pretty confident’ going into any match.
