BRECON Corries travel to the team immediately above them on Saturday looking to maintain their three match winning run.
The Corries, with 30 points, are only five off Highadmit Projects South Wales Alliance Premier Division leaders Ynyshir Albions with both clubs having played 15 games.
This Saturday, February 16 the Corries are away at Bridgend side Cefn Cribwr BC who are one point and one place ahead of the Corries but having played one game less after their home tie with Canton Liberal was postponed last Saturday.
The Corries’ last defeat was a 1-3 home loss to Sully Sports in December but they have followed that with three wins and have also had to accept two postponements in January.
Last Saturday the Corries defeated Merthyr Saints at the Rich Field despite their visitors making a late challenge for a share of the spoils.
The Corries had made the best possible start when Paul Keddle put the home side ahead in the first minute.
But after the former Welsh Premier League man had dispatched his early penalty neither team troubled the other’s goal.
As the minutes ticked away it looked as if the Corries would secure their ninth win of the season only for the Saints got their goal on 85 minutes.
The home side needed all of the remaining minutes of the 90 and four minutes of additional time to find a reply which eventually came from Luke Roughley.
The midfielder ensured the Corries would claim a ninth victory which moved the Brecon team back in to sixth place in the league and just three points off third placed Cardiff Draconians who have played three games more.
The 2-1 victory ensured the Corries can continue to play a role in an incredibly tight South Wales Alliance title race.
Leaders Ynyshir have 11 wins from 15 with two draws and two defeats to give them 35 points however the Corries are one of four teams to have played 15 or 16 games who trail the Albions by five points or less.
Second placed Pencoed Athletic have 11 wins from 16 but four losses and are on 34 points while the Dracs have 10 wins from 18 and five losses.
Caerphilly Athletic, who are in fourth, have played 20 games, five more than the leaders, and trail them by two points and also have 10 wins but seven losses.
Defeat for Merthyr Saints saw them slip to eighth in the table and they remain on 30 points having played one game more than the leaders.
Cefn Cribwr BC, who host the Corries on Saturday at the Cae Gof Playing Fields (2.30pm), could be the best placed of all the challengers.
They have 10 wins, one draw, and the same number of losses as the Corries, three, but with a game in hand on the leaders and as many as six on some of the chasing pack.
