RHAYADER Town slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Mid Wales rivals, Llanfair United in the Huws Gray Alliance.
Following their victory over Flint Town the previous week it was a disappointing result for The Red Kites who did not play as well as against Flint but still probably deserved a point.
Llanfair took the lead a minute before half-time when James Davies hit the bar and Joe Vaughan stuck away the rebound.
Within a minute of the second half kicking off, Town were further behind as a defensive error gifted Llanfair’s Davies a second. Rhayader got themselves back in the game when Christian Jones netted and Town did everything except score in the final minutes.
Gareth Hughes hit the bar, Rhydian Davies and Dafydd Carruthers saw efforts cleared off the line while Hughes also headed wide. A disappointed Rhayader manager, Dylam McPhee said: "Again individual errors cost us and you just cannot afford to make mistakes like that at this level."
Rhayader host Prestatyn Town on Saturday with defenders, Gavin Samuel and Craig Garside set to return while McPhee might also name himself in the starting line up.
In the other Mid Wales derby in The Alliance, Caaersws recorded a big 2-1 victory at Guilsfield who had beaten leaders, Caernarfon Town the previous week. Goals from Josh Hartrick and Sion Clarke gave The Bluebirds the points that still mean they are bottom but now just a point behind Rhayader.
