ARDAL LEAGUE NORTH EAST

Radnor Valley were the only local winners in the Ardal League North East at the weekend. Having been winless in their last three league outings, the Goats recorded a 2-0 victory over Llangollen Town thanks to first half goals from Ieuan Price and Sam Sainsbury.

Knighton Town, who are still unbeaten in the league, had their home clash with Lex X1 postponed due to a bereavement affecting the visitors, while there were defeats on the road for both Builth Wells and Llandrindod Wells.

A look at the league table suggested Llandrindod would have been targeting three points from their trip to Llanrhaeadr but they went down 2-1 with former Four Crosses striker, Will Howard netting twice for the Tanat Valley side. Llandrindod travelled with just one substitute and no recognised keeper with Stuart Williams wearing the number one shirt and making a number of key saves. Howard had put Llanrhaeadr in front following a defensive error but Llandrindod were level at half-time with hard working midfielder, Will Cleaton popping up with a rare goal when he headed in from a Gavin Rowlands cross on the half hour mark. Howard regained the lead for the home side two minutes into the second half and that was to prove the decisive score as the Spa men fell to a second league defeat in a row.

Builth Wells crashed to a heavy 5-1 defeat at Llanfair United despite getting off to the best possible start. Danny Ives put the Bulls ahead after just two minutes but Tomos Jones drew the hosts level before Josh Astley headed Llanfair into an interval lead. Builth were hopeful of getting something from the game at the break but an own goal from Ryan Powell just before the hour mark saw Llanfair extend their lead. After that Builth could find no way back as both Jones and Astley went on to complete doubles with well taken goals for Llanfair.

Former Rhayader Town and Builth defender, Joe Wozencraft opened the scoring for Bow Street in their 3-1 win against Kerry. Rhys Hughes and Harvey Matthews also netted in the first half with Ed Clarke gaining a late consolation for the Lambs who fell to a third straight defeat.

Llanuwchllyn remain top of the Ardal North East with two goals from Meilir Williams and an own goal sealing an impressive 3-0 win at Dolgellau.

Cefn Albion stay second after Callum Mannion’s first half strike earned a hard fought 1-0 success at Rhos Aelwyd who lost for the first time.

Penycae look to be  much improved from last season and are up to fourth after a hat-trick from Zac Davies helped them to a 4-1 victory over Corwen.

ARDAL LEAGUE SOUTH EAST

Brecon Corries suffered a fourth straight defeat in all competitions as they lost 4-2 at home against Goytre in the Ardal League South East. Corries, who were without Dale Evans, Paul Keddle and Jack Biggs, twice took the lead in an excellent first half performance. Craig Evans opened the scoring hammering the ball home from the edge of the box after two of his brothers, Corey and Joel combined but Lloyd Oliver equalised for Goytre, who are among the title favourites. Corries regained their lead before half-time with Joel Evans firing home from Craig Evans’ pass again from 18 yards. Daniel Paul put Goytre back on terms 10 minutes into the second period and the visitors were awarded a penalty midway through the half following a foul by Mitchell Davies. Goalkeeper, Stephen Price was sent off in the aftermath while from the sidelines it looked as if a Goytre player should also have seen red. Joel Evans donned the keeper’s jersey and saved the spot-kick but Chris Ham netted the rebound before Sonny Lewis completed Goytre’s win with a fourth goal, which flattered them on the day.

Brecon Corries Youth enjoyed better fortune on Sunday as they defeated defending League Champions, Newport City Development 5-3 in the FAW National Reserve League South East. In difficult conditions, Corries made a super start with Oliver Powell (2) and Jamie Williams seeing them 3-0 up inside 18 minutes. Newport pulled two goals back and drew level three minutes into the second half. But Jamie Williams regained Corries’ lead two minutes later with a penalty making him the league’s topscorer before captain, Leo Davies netted a fifth to seal their second win of the season.

WATSON FINANCIAL MID WALES LEAGUE (SOUTH)

The South Powys trio of Brecon FC, Hay St Marys and Talgarth Town continue to set the pace in the Watson Financial Mid Wales League (South) after wins at the weekend.

Ricky Lynes starred with two goals and three assists as Hay St Marys maintained top spot with a 5-2 victory at Penybont United whose defeat was their first of the season. Hay were again slow starters and Penybont could feel hard done by to be two goals down at the break. Kyle Harding gave them the lead after Lynes had his effort parried and Harding doubled his and Hay’s tally with a great finish from a lovely Lynes pass. The Saints added a third on the hour with Lynes netting from the penalty spot having been brought down. Conor Walby pulled a goal back for Penybont from a  Rhys Davies through ball but two goals in five minutes sealed it for Hay. Man-of-the-match, Lynes was again involved in the fourth goal providing an assist for Darren Horrigan before scoring his own second meaning Walby’s second for the Polecats was no more than a consolation.

Brecon FC and Talgarth Town are unbeaten and keeping the pressure on and are both just a point behind the Saints with two games in hand. Brecon were 4-2 winners at Llandrindod Wells Reserves with Owain Powell-Jones bagging a hat-trick but they did not have it all their own way especially in the first half. Powell-Jones headed the Stags into an early lead from an Aaron Mills corner but Llandrindod hit back. Robbie Nicholls set Rhodri Jones up for an equaliser and the Spa men then took the lead through Richie Powell with Nicholls again the provider. Brecon were back on terms by half-time with Luis Price putting Powell-Jones in for his second. The same combination led to Brecon going in front for a second time early in the second half with Price squaring for Powell-Jones to complete his second hat-trick of the term. And there was no way back for Llandrindod when the excellent Price completed the scoring himself finishing off a fine team move when Powell-Jones slipped him through.

Talgarth had too much experience for a young Hay Development side winning 4-0 with goals from Brian Keddle-Jones, Kyle O’Shea, Tom Francis and Gethin Davies.

Talgarth went ahead inside the first minute when Grzes Chodnicki found an unmarked Brian Keddle-Joes who fired into the top corner from the edge of the box. Kyle O’Shea added a second soon after and Tom Francis struck five minutes before half-time to give Talgarth a commanding lead. Hay’s young side battled throughout and had chances themselves after the break but it was Gethin Davies who scored the only second half goal for the Royals.

Honours were even in the local derby between Presteigne St Andrews and Knighton Town Reserves who drew 1-1 on Friday night. Declan Beddoes struck for Knighton with a free-kick two minutes before half-time but Presteigne, who were really fired up for the occasion, equalised through the returning Fin Ozsoylu, who was playing his first game for the club in five years. Ozsolyu netted from a rebound after Knighton keeper, Ned Cadwallader had denied Ruben Lloyd. 16-year-old Cadwallader, had a fine game, following in his father’s footsteps, while Presteigne’s Jordan Bailey also made several good saves in a game which was a fine advert for the league.

St Harmon made it back-to-back wins for the first time in 18 months after triumphing 4-0 in their local derby at Llanidloes Town Reserves to move into the top half of the table. Two goals in as many minutes in the first half from Arran Lloyd and topscorer, Adam Young put The Swifts in the driving seat. Young struck again early in the second half and substitute, Joseph Forkins completed the win with his first goal for the club.

CENTRAL WALES CUP

Rhayader Town are out of the Central Wales Cup following an action-packed 5-4 defeat at Bishops Castle where they somehow managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. The Red Kites, who were without the influential Rhys Thomas and Sam Rees, were quick out of the blocks forging a two-goal interval lead through Stevie Walsh and Cameron Mills. But the hosts turned things around after the break scoring through Tom Edwards, Niall Thomas and Toby Mills. Goals in quick succession from Cameron Mills and Bradley Goodwin then put Rhayader back in front but they had Mikey Walsh sent off on 84 minutes and Castle cashed in with Martyn Ziemann levelling before Edwards snatched a winner in stoppage time.

In the day’s other Central Wales Cup ties, Keane Moore completed  a hat-trick as Ffostrasol beat Maesglas 7-2 while Sam Williams got off the bench to score twice and guide Carno to a 2-1 success over Montgomery Town.

Llechryd trounced Cardigan Town 6-0 while in the Emrys Morgan Cup, Mattie Davies and Callum Evans helped themselves to hat-tricks in Penparcau’s 8-1 victory over Dewi Stars. Owain Richards grabbed a late winner as Waterloo Rovers came from behind to triumph 2-1 against Four Crosses.

MMP CENTRAL WALES LEAGUES

Lampeter Town are back on top of the MMP Central Wales League (South) after a high scoring 7-3 win at Llanidloes Town. They virtually had the points in the bag by half-time when Hari Jones had bagged a hat-trick and Rhys Davies and Rhodri Morgan were also on target. Llanidloes staged a spirited fightback in the second half scoring through Josh Jones (2) and Fabian Ujma but a brace from substitute, Llyr Jones clinched it for Lampeter.

Saturday’s game was the last for Llanidloes manager, Rhys Evans who has stepped down. Evans was appointed late last season and saw improved results and performances but it was too late to avoid relegation. Llanidloes were many pundit’s tip to bounce straight back to Tier Three but the departure of a host of senior players has meant that is not going to happen. Llanidloes have appointed Dafydd Carruthers as their new player-manager.

Penrhyncoch Reserves are level on points with Lampeter with a game in hand after Steff Taylor, Chris Wilkins, 16-year-old Josh Lane and Isaac Pridmore helped them to a 4-0 verdict at Llanilar – a sixth straight win for the Roosters.

Kerry Reserves and Bow Street Reserves played out a goalless draw while Tregaron, who are blowing hot and cold, beat Machynlleth 3-2 thanks to Ryan Davies (2) and Rhun Garner (2).

Tywyn Bryncrug remain unbeaten in the MMP Central Wales League (North) after clawing back a three goal deficit to draw 3-3 with Forden United who dropped more valuable points. Jake O’Donnell (2) and Josh Lenc saw Forden lead 3-0 at the break but Aled Jones scored twice and after Aaron Rodgers was set off, Mark Edmondson grabbed an equaliser for ten man Tywyn.

Berriew stepped up their challenge with a 7-0 drubbing of Dolgellau Reserves with goals from Charlie Evans (2), Ed Baker (2), Joe Haycock, Richard Davies and Alex Siddi while one goal from Oscar Herd was enough  to earn Llansantffraid a vital 1-0 win over Llanfyllin Town. Dyffryn Banw claimed their first win of the term with Owain Jones (pen) and Harry Long on target in a 2-0 success at Abermule while Ryan Williams netted twice in Barmouth’s 4-1 victory against Trewern United.

CYMRU LEAGUES

Caersws slipped to a fifth straight defeat in the JD Cymru North beaten 4-0 at high flying Airbus UK. The Bluebirds held The Wingmakers until Danny Warren made the breakthrough on 66 minutes after which Airbus took control adding further goals through Mason Blackwell-Jones, George Peers and Oliver Lanceley.

Callum Bromley netted the winner as Guilsfield won 3-2 at Mid Wales rivals, Penrhyncoch. Adam Knott had earlier twice put Guilsfield ahead but Zac Davies and Rhydian Davies replied  for Penrhyn.

Newtown were 5-2 winners at Rhyl 1879 thanks to Tarran Hollinshead (2), Robert Evans, Greg Draper and Devon Torry and it was a super week for Nathan Leonard’s side who also knocked Cymru Premier Bala Town out of the MG Nathaniel Cup. It ended 1-1 with Hollinshead having given Newtown the lead before they went on to win on penalties.

Jonathan Evans marked his return to Aberystwyth Town with both goals as The Seasiders recorded a welcome 2-0 win against Cwmbran Celtic in the JD Cymru South. Fans favourite, Evans has returned on-loan having joined Briton Ferry Llansawel in the summer.
