SUNDAY, October 8 saw Hay ladies start their 2017/18 season with a huge win, battering Belmont ladies 10-2 in the new Hereford mini league.

After two hard seasons for the Saints in the North Powys and Midwest counties leagues, their hard work, determination and gained experience has paid off with a well deserved win. Every player on the pitch worked incredibly hard and showed real promise for the season ahead.

The Saints went one nil down after the first 10 minutes with a well worked goal from Belmont’s number 18, however the Hay ladies quickly turned this around with Larissa Griffiths finding the back of the net, levelling the score.

This led to the flood gates opening for the Saints, with a quick second goal for Griffiths and closely followed by a mazy run from the back by Rachel Venables making it 3-1.

The fourth and fifth goals were scored by Griffiths who was definitely back to her best form after a horrible few months out due to injury.

Caitlin O’Shea then slotted home goal number six, but minutes later the Saints conceded with a penalty awarded to Belmont off Hay’s Isabelle Watkins, this making the score 6-2.

The Hay girls didn’t let this rain on their parade though and carried on the attack. Griffiths with her fifth goal of the day, Venables scoring her second, Yasmin Mitton joining the party for goal number nine of the match with a half volley and Isabelle Watkins closing the scoring with a perfect lob from just outside the box.

Next game sees Hay Ladies take on Leominster on November 12 to continue their successful start to the season.
