HAY St Marys Reserves closed the gap on the teams above them in the Watson Financial Mid-Wales League (South) with a 3-0 home success over Llandrindod Wells Reserves last Friday night.
The saints, with games in hand, took an interval lead through Kyle Harding who was played through by the returning Kevin Jones.
Llandrindod made changes at half-time and were unfortunate not to have got back on terms hitting the woodwork three times. But Hay stood firm with James Eckley outstanding at the back and Josh Wisniewski headed a second goal from Harding’s cross before another header from debutant, Matt Turrell sealed the win.
Newcastle returned to winning ways in the week-ends only other league game triumphing 4-2 at Rhayader Town Reserves. The Shropshire side started well and Scott Oxford headed them in front from Tom Bright’s cross before Sam Morgan added a second from 25 yards.
Richard Davies pulled one back for Rhayader whose player-manager, Mark Price then levelled following a defensive mix up. Half-time substitute, Jack Kennett regained the lead for Newcastle within two minutes of entering the fray but after that Rhayader pressed for an equaliser only to be hit on the break as Bright fired a fourth for Newcastle.
