The Mid Wales League (South) is set to return for the 2025-2026 football season after a two-year absence from the local football calendar.

The league will hold its Annual General Meeting at Builth Wells Football Club on Tuesday, June 24, where various preparations for the new season will be discussed.

A second meeting between clubs and committee members last week confirmed that ten teams have committed to taking part next season.

Builth Wells Reserves, Hay St Marys, and Presteigne St Andrews will step down from the MMP Central Wales League (South) ahead of next season. Hay St Marys are also planning to field two teams, with the addition of a development side.

Talgarth Town and Brecon FC will make their return to Central Wales football next season following spells competing in South Wales-based leagues.

Llanidloes Town Reserves were unable to attend the most recent meeting but have expressed their intention to join the league.

But Penybont United, who had previously shown interest in joining, now appear likely to remain in Tier Four for the coming season.

The final line-up for the league is still to be confirmed, but the proposed list of participating clubs could include:

Brecon FC, Builth Wells Res, Hay St Marys, Hay St Marys Development, Knighton Town Res, Llandrindod Wells Res, Llanidloes Town Res, Presteigne St Andrews, Rhayader Town Res, St Harmon and Talgarth Town.

Clubs stepping down from Tier Four have cited the burden of long-distance travel - particularly to Ceredigion and parts of West Wales - as a key factor, with a more locally-based league seen as a better fit for the season ahead.

The league had been in existence since the 1900-1901 season before its recent hiatus.

It provided football for teams in Brecon and Radnorshire, and, at times, Shropshire, Herefordshire, Montgomeryshire and Ceredigion.
