Talgarth Town laid down an early marker in the Watson Financial Mid Wales League (South) by kicking off their campaign with a 2-0 victory over local rivals, Hay St Marys.
It was derby delight for the Royals who wanted it more on the night with Grzes Chodnicki scoring both goals - one in each half. Chodnicki got his first when Gavin Perry split the Hay defence and sealed the win with another accomplished finish after being played in by Kyle O’Shea.
Rhayader Town Development continued their bright start with player-manager, Liam Addison getting off the bench to grab a late winner in a 2-1 win in their local derby at St Harmon. Ben Jackaman had put The Swifts ahead but Josh Rees equalised against his former club who are managed by his father, Geoff.
Knighton Town Reserves twice came from behind to open their season with a 3-2 winat Llandrindod Wells Reserves. Richie Powell and Darren Murphy twice put the Spa Men ahead but Leon Morris and Rhys Licence levelled before Taylor Wozencraft bagged the winner on the hour.
Presteigne St Andrews picked up their first win with Jude Horton’s spectacular volley from outside the box midway through the first half, earning a 1-0 win at Builth Wells Reserves. Builth probably deserved a point and were unlucky not to have got an equaliser when George Lloyd’s terrific 25-yard strike came back off he bar in the second half.
Brecon FC also won for the first time with a 14-0 drubbing of a young Hay Development which included hat-tricks for Rueben Rodell, Tomos Morgan and Owain Powell-Jones. Kyran Dillam scored twice and Jack Davies, Charlie Mills and Aaron Mills completed Hay’s baptism of fire on their league debut.
Hay St Marys Reserves came up against an impressive Penydarren BGC Reserves in the RTM Merthyr Brickwork League with Josh Davies scoring their consolation in an 11-1 away defeat.
Rhayader Town saw the feel-good factor surrounding The Weirgodd continue as they moved top of the MMP Central Wales League (South) in midweek.
The Red Kites beat Kerry Reserves 3-0 with a miskick by the Kerry keeper gifting Jacob Jones a first half opener. Keegan McGing hit a great strike which went in via a post and player-coach, Lance Jones completed the win from a Stevie Walsh through ball.
Rhayader go top as Lampeter Town slipped to a 3-2 defeat at home against Bont, whose Jordan Lee Perry fired a second half hat-trick. Jason Jones and Hari Jones reduced the deficit but it proved too little too late.
Llanidloes Town saw their sorry start continue as they lost 4-0 at home to Penrhyncoch Reserves with Emyr Jones, Cai Williams, Dylan Jenkins and Isaac Hill netting in the second half for The Roosters.
Landon Walton gave Aberystwyth Town Development the lead against Bow Street Reserves who hit back to win 5-1 through Harvey Matthews (2), Joey Williams, James Whitney and Charlie Turner. Tregaron beat Llanilar 3-1 with goals from Jac Hockenhull (2) and Justin Davis despite seeing Josh Taylor sent off when the scores were level.
Bishops Castle sprung a surprise in the MMP Central Wales League (North) with goals from Flynn Morris and Niall Thomas securing a 2-1 victory over the much fancied Forden United whose Jake O’Donnell had levelled.
Josh Hartrick completed a hat-trick and Geraint Jones was also on target as Carno won 4-0 at Abermule and there were big wins too for Berriew and Llansantffraid Village.
Berriew triumphed 6-1 at Montgomery Town thanks to Joe Haycock (2), Richard Davies, Tom Davies, Jake Meredith and George Davies while Callum Wilson fired a hat-trick and Hagi Drammeh, Oscar Herd and Delcio Jaimie Neto also netted as Llansantffraid eased to a 6-0 success over Dyffryn Banw.
Waterloo Rovers moved top after defeating previous leaders, Llanfyllin Town 3-1 with goals from Henry Watkins, Wil Thomas and Tom Ellis. Welshpool Town left it late to win 2-1 at Four Crosses with Jake Ellison and Ethan Kinsey netting in stoppage time after Lewis Birch had handed Crosses an 83rd minute lead. And Barmouth won 3-0 at Dolgellau Reserves with Sion Williams, Leo Green and Ieuan Brooks the marksmen.
