SPAR MID WALES LEAGUE DIVISION 2
Builth Wells continue to set the pace at the top of the Spar Mid Wales League second division with a 3-0 away win at Talgarth Town. Two goals from Jamie McIlroy and a penalty from Harry Bastable made it ten wins from eleven league games for Builth who are eight points ahead of second placed Llansantffraid Village.
Llansantffraid, who beat Abermule 4-0 on Friday night do have two games in hand on Chris Jones’s side.
Hay St Marys are up to third following a 3-1 home victory against Newbridge on Friday night. Jack Biggs headed The Saints in front but Aeron Powell put Newbridge back on level terms. Josh Wisniewski regained Hay’s lead on the stroke of half-time and ‘keeper, Jordan Bailey kept that lead intact after the break denying both Powell and Ollie Woods. Biggs then netted his second for The Saints meaning Bailey’s last minute penalty save from Powell was academic as Hay extended their recent unbeaten league run to four while for Newbridge it was a third straight defeat.
And Brecon Noerthcote are now fourth after a hard earned 1-0 victory over pointless Penybont. Top scorer, Joel Evans grabbed the only goal in the first half although Penybont pressed really hard for an equaliser and their first point does look as if it is not too far away.
Elsewhere Dolgellau defeated Montgomery Town 3-1 with goals from Dominic Thomas, Dion Jones and Sion Lloyd.
SPAR MID WALES LEAGUE DIVISION 1
None of our three local sides were in action in the Spar Mid Wales League first division on Saturday. Knighton Town were bowing out of The FAW Trophy Competition with a 4-1 defeat at Mynydd Isa Sprtans while there was no game for Llandrindod Wells or Radnor Valley on a day Welshpool Town maintained their five point lead at the top of the table.
The league leaders eased to an 8-1 home success over Borth United in what was a memorable day for Wil Thomas who bagged six of the goals. Adam Davies netted Welshpool’s other two. Llanrhaeadr maintained their challenge for honours beating Churchstoke 4-1 at home.
Carno are into the top six following a 5-0 home verdict against Machynlleth with Peter Rees firing a hat-trick while Jac Petrie and Scott Williams were also on target. And Bow Street are level on points with Carno with two games in hand after their 4-3 home verdict over Tywyn Bryncrug.
Andrew Gittins, Tom Evans, Llion Jenkins and Mark Gornal contributed to Bow Street’s 4-3 success over Tywyn Bryncrug while Aberaeron recorded a welcome 3-1 victory against visiting Kerry.
WATSON FINANCIAL MID WALES LEAGUE (SOUTH)
Rhayader Town extended their lead at the top of the Watson Financial Mid Wales League (South) with a 2-0 victory in the local derby at St Harmon. First-half goals from Michael Fowlie and ex-St Harmon man, Ryan Addison proved the difference as The Red Kites made it nine wins from as many games.
Newcastle leapfrogged Presteigne Reserves in to third spot with a 2-1 home success. Presteigne went nto the game boasting five straight wins but that run was ended as the Shropshire side extended their own unbeaten run to seven. Carl Price gave Newcastle an interval lead and Calum Evans added a second after the break. Tom Lewis pulled one back for Presteigne from the penalty spot while Newcastle themelves were awarded a penalty but Price fired wide from the spot.
Builth Wells are enjoying a decent season all round and their Reserves swept to an 8-0 home success over Felindre who failed to build on their win the previous week. Dave Thomas, the league’s leading marksman, added another three to his season’s tally. There was also a hat-trick for Charlie Boucher with Josh Price and Aled Powell completing the tally. The game between Llandrindod Wells Reserves and Brecon Northcote Reserves was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch while Knighton Town Reserves beat Hay St Marys Reserves 6-3.
