MID WALES YOUTH LEAGUE CUP

Rhayader Town 6 Bow Street 1

RHAYADER Town’s side have progressed to the Welsh Beef & Lamb Mid Wales Under 19s League Cup Final after a dominant semi-final display against Bow Street at Aberystwyth, writes Lewis Pugh.

The Kites took control of the game from the offset with some slick, controlled passing and sharp breaks on the counter on the university’s 3G pitch.

After a few missed chances and a goal line clearance, the deadlock was broken when Lewis Pugh latched onto a chip over the top and slotted the ball past the keeper. He then doubled the lead five minutes later. Rhayader continued to put the pressure on Bow Street and were rewarded when Ollie Woods found the net on the 30 minute mark.

The Ceredigion side responded with an impressive final 15 minutes of the first half, upping the tempo and creating a few chances of their own.

However, unable to find a goal the teams went in at half time with Rhayader enjoying a three goal advantage.

The Kites began the second half just like the first, looking to control the game whilst creating plenty of chances for themselves and within a matter of time Ollie Woods made it four with a superb strike into the top corner. With the game opening up, both teams saw chances to put the ball in the back of the net. However, a very comfortable performance from goalie Fin Duncan-Mckane saw Rhayader’s clean sheet kept in tact. Ollie Woods secured his hat-trick midway through the second half when he turned and finished the ball from just outside the box.

A sixth goal came soon after with substitute Taylor Wozencraft getting in on the action.

A spirited performance from Bow Street meant they found themselves a consolation goal at the end of the game when their striker calmly looped the ball over the onrushing keeper.

Rhayader will be play Welshpool in the final with the date yet to be decided and the youth team have also reached the Central Wales Youth Cup final in which they will face the Aberystwyth Academy.
