RHAYADER Town Reserves are Watson Financial Mid Wales (South) League Champions for the third time in four seasons.
The Weirglodd side received the Championship trophy following last Wednesday night’s 2-2 draw with Knighton Town Reserves.
Mark Davies had given Rhayader an early lead but Harry Worton and Jack Hammonds turned the tables only to see Davies net his and Rhayader’s second late in the game to clinch the title with three games to spare.
Rhayader went on to win 3-2 at Hay St Marys Reserves at the weekend with Mark Davies giving them the lead when he chested the ball in after Tom Bevan had parried Dan Goodman’s header.
Kyle Harding put The Saints level from the penalty spot but Tony Davies regained Rhayader’s lead with his free-kick sailing in from inside his own half.
Tom Jones extended the lead with a superb 30 yard volley before Matty Tong grabbed a second for Hay.
Knighton Reserves drew 2-2 at home against Talgarth Town and that coupled with Brecon FC’s failure to raise a side to travel to Carno Reserves mean The Robins are almost certain to finish as runner-up. Against Talgarth, Max Lewis put Knighton ahead and Talgarth then scored twice before Marc Wozenctaft salvaged a point.
Whereas Brecon FC’s end of season paints a disappointing picture, Brecon Northcote have ended their campaign with a flourish and are unbeaten in nine following a 4-2 victory at St Harmon. Joel Evans was Northcote’s shooting start with all four goals while Hefin Rowlands scored twice for The Swifts.
Northcote, who have been have been named the Team of the Month for April had also drawn 3-3 at Llandrindod wells Reserves with goals from lewys Powell (2) and Dale Evans while Jason Coles, Scott Davies and Kieran McCarley netted for Llandrindod who had led 2-0 and 3-2.
Brecon FC, who will now have three points deducted, had slipped at a 1-0 defeat at Presteigne Reserves last midweek with Justin Davies bagging the all important goal to earn the Llanandras Park side back to back wins.
Newcastle signed off with a 3-1 win at Llanidloes Town Reserves who had led at half-time through Callum Jones. But the Shropshire men hit back after the break through Tom Bright (2) and Craig Morris. Newcastle had drawn 1-1 at Hay Reserves last Tuesday night with Simon Oakley giving them the lead inside the first minute only to see Chris Preece equalise in stoppage time at the end of the game.
