KNIGHTON Town cranked up the pressure on the leaders in the Spar Mid Wales League first division with an impressive 4-0 away success at Welshpool Town, who had started the day second in the table.
The Robins stretched their unbeaten league run to five during which time they have netted fifteen times and conceded none.
In blustery conditions, Knighton started on the front foot and after Lee Sutton had tested the home ‘keeper from a free-kick, Mark Jones gave them the lead after being fed by brother, Adie.
Gareth Watkins, in only his second start of the season, added the second in the second half against one of his former clubs before a Connor Bird double wrapped up the spoils. Robins ‘keeper, Dave Exall produced a couple of fine late saves as the Bryn-y-Castell men kept a fifth consecutive clean sheet in the league.
Hay St Marys and Llandrindod Wells were both frustrated by the weather while Carno are the new league leaders with Peter Rees bagging the all important goal in a narrow 1-0 success at windy Aberaeron.
Elsewhere lowly Tywyn Bryncrug stunned Waterloo Rovers with a 3-1 away success while Montgomery Town remain deep in relegation trouble following a 1-0 defeat at Machynlleth where Drew Page was the home side’s match winner.
