A newly formed youth football team in Talgarth has defied all expectations by winning both their league and league cup in their very first season.
Talgarth Town Juniors Under-14s have completed an impressive double – a feat rarely achieved by any side, let alone one in its inaugural season.
The team, formed to give local boys a chance to play competitive football, now boasts a full squad of 20 players and a growing reputation in junior football circles.
The idea for the team was born when Dale Williams realised there was no under-14s side in Talgarth for his son and his friends to join. After approaching Talgarth Football Club, he was offered the chance to run the team himself – an opportunity he took with both hands.
Mr Williams trained as a coach and enlisted the help of his friend, Paul Bufton, to co-lead the side. Their journey began with just four boys and some serious doubts about whether they would ever be able to field a full team in time for the season.
But through word of mouth, persistence, and commitment the numbers began to grow. The team now plays with a full squad and has bonded quickly – a chemistry that has translated into outstanding success on the pitch.

Looking ahead, there are plans to continue the momentum with potential for a joint Under-15s/16s team next season, ensuring opportunities for the players to grow and develop further.
