TALGARTH Town laid down a real marker in the Watson Financial Mid Wales League (South) with a 5-1 victory over defending Champions, Rhayader Town Reserves.

Ben Sharman completed a hat-trick and Jordan Harvey and Kyle O’Shea were also on target for Chris Voyle’s side who are now three points clear at the top as Rhayader suffered their first defeat of the term.

It was Rhayader who struck first through Adam Hutchinson but Ben Sharman had Talgarth level by half-time. Talgarth then enjoyed a purple patch after the break with Sharman cutting inside to net his second before Jordan Harvey increased the lead after Harry Sharman had been denied.

The Sharman brothers combined for Ben to complete his hat-trick before Kyle O’Shea rounded off the scoring after Harry Sharman had again been denied.

Presteigne Reserves are now the one unbeaten side in the division and had gone top temporarily on Friday night with a 5-2 home success over Llanidloes Town Reserves.

There were two goals each for Tom Crichton and Gareth Bull with Josh Gardner completing the nap hand while Stafford Jones and Nick Jones netted for Llanidloes who were 2-2 at half-time.

Builth Wells Reserves are handily placed in the table and recorded a 1-0 success for the second week in a row. This time Builth defeated Knighton Town Reserves who were possibly a shade unfortunate not to have picked up a share of the spoils. As it was George Woods won it for Builth with the only goal in the last five minutes.

Brecon Northcote returned to winning ways with Joel Evans, the league’s top goalscorer, adding two more to his season’s tally in a 3-1 success at St Harmon.

Fraser McInally had given Northcote an interval lead and Evans added is double in the second half. Josh Rees pulled one back for The Swifts who were much better in the second half and could have even further reduced the deficit.

Llandrindod Wells Reserves hauled themselves off the foot of the table with a stirring second half comeback earning a 4-3 victory over Penybont Reserves. Penybont most definitely had the better of the first half and led 2-0 at the break through a brace from Daniel Paoslila-Jones.

Rory Brown scored a second half penalty for Penybont but Llandrindod took the spoils through Jimmy Price (2), Jason Coles and Ryan Sims.
