HIGHADMIT PROJECTS SOUTH WALES ALLIANCE LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
A FIRST half hat-trick from Paul Keddle helped Brecon Corries ease to victory over bottom side Ton & Gelli at the Rich Field.
Keddle opened the scoring on 12 minutes to shake off the disappointment from the previous week when the Corries crashed out of the Welsh Cup at league rivals Sully Sports.
Goalkeeper Brian Keddle was suspended for this league fixture due to a yellow card he collected in the previous week’s 3-1 cup defeat forcing midfielder Joel Evans to fill in between the sticks.
But Evans proved himself to be sure-handed and impressed the supporters in the stand with a competent display and a clean sheet for third-placed Corries.
The visitors from the Rhondda had advertised on social media in the week ahead of the fixture for a goalkeeper.
And Corries midfielder Rhys Thomas became aware of a vacancy in the opponents’ goal on 70 minutes to score from just inside their half.
Collecting the ball on the halfway line he looked up to see the Ton & Gelli keeper enjoying a mid-afternoon stroll around the edge of his 18-yard box and hit the back of the net from 45 yards.
Thomas adds his name to the likes of Wayne Pritchard, Gav Perry, Gareth Pugh and Dale Evans who’ve all scored from 30 yards or more at the Rich Field.
The Corries barely had time to congratulate Thomas when Jack Bain scored from close range to complete the scoring on 71 minutes.
The visiting keeper, had up until Thomas unleashed his rocket, been enjoying a better second half after Keddle’s 43 minute hat-trick.
Captain Luke Roughley, who had returned to the team, was part of an impressive midfield with Jack Bain, Gareth Aplin and Thomas who kept Keddle’s supply line running in the first half.
The forward added his second on 30 minutes and completed his hat-trick two minutes before he was ready for his halftime orange.
The Corries will have the chance to gain some revenge for their Welsh Cup defeat when they return to Sully on Saturday, November 3 in the W John Owen Cup with a 1.30pm kick-off.
They return to the Rich Field on Saturday, November 10 when Garw SBGC are the visitors.
Kick off will be 2pm for the fixture and all league games through November, December and January.
