DAVE Matthews welcomed 96 members to play in his Captains Day on August 7 and it turned out to be a very successful day with some exceptional scores for the winners.

He also raised £410 for the Captain’s Charity, Combat Stress, with a challenge on the 12th hole. The Captain provided refreshments mid round on the 12th as well as a BBQ and a pint after the players had finished their rounds on the 18th.

The morning started off with light drizzle and a fairly brisk wind but as the day wore on the rain gave way to intermittent sun but the gusts of winds got stronger making it more difficult for scoring.

The course played extremely well and although there were some tricky flags this didn’t deter the winners with Jacob Cole playing seven shots better than his handicap to amass 43 points.

Rob Evans shot the round of his year to be four under gross returning in 30 shots to make his move on the back nine and claim second, Adam Goddard and Allan Smith being one shot further behind and Tony Bowkett claiming the last spot on the podium with 39 points.

The Ladies turned out to support Dave too and they had their own competition to play for with Ronnie Creswell shooting 37 points and taking the spoils by a couple of shots from Jaqui Wilding with Sarah Parker coming in third another couple of shots further back.
