A BUILTH WELLS cyclist has been honoured by receiving the Lifetime Contribution to Cycling in Wales at this years Welsh Cycling Awards.

John Lloyd MBD attended the awards ceremony in Cardiff on Saturday November 8 along with a gathering of over 200 cyclist from clubs across Wales.

John received the award for his years of commitment to developing and supporting mountain biking in Wales. From his early involvement in the sport leading rides and encouraging young people to get involved John has influenced hundreds of people to take up cycling.

His organisation of mountain bike events in Wales has also attracted thousands of people to the country and put Wales on the map as a mountain bike destination.

John, to whom this award came as a surprise, said that "he was stunned to hear his name announced," and that "he was very proud to receive the award, for just doing what he has always loved doing, which is; encouraging people to get out and enjoy riding their bikes."

John continues to be involved with various cycling events, next year he will again organise a round of the British mountain bike cross country series at Fforest Fields, as well as helping out at other events throughout the year.
