Talybont Ospreys Cricket Club took to the field for the very first time on Sunday, July 20 against Llanfrynach Cricket Club in the very first edition of the the Dai Poulton Cup.

The Cup was organised as a touching tribute to Dai Poulton, a local who is no longer with us.

The Ospreys decided to invite Llanfrynach to take part in the club’s first match due to them being their nearest cricket club.

Unfortunately for Talybont Ospreys, the club didn't get off to a winning start.

Llanfrynach took to the field first with E. Morgan and L. Crockett opening the batting.

Some superb bowling from Sam Harpur, caught by Andrew Jones, saw Talybont Ospreys take their first wicket of the afternoon.

Llanfrynach retired for 118.

Tom Short and Richard James took to the field to open the batting for Talybont Ospreys.

Tom Short found himself out for 21 and Richard James was out for 9 runs. Talybont needed a chase, and got it for a while with Shilesh Karavadra retiring at 30 not out.

The newcomers of Talybont fell short at 89 retired.

Wickets in the game were taken by: Sam Harpur (2), Rhodri Morgan (2), Vice Captain Jo Harpur (2), Andrew Jones (2), Shailesh Kardavara (2), and Richard James (1).

With the result irrelevant for an inexperienced team, Talybont can be proud of their efforts and a good start.

A trophy for the newly formed Dai Poulton Cup was prepared for the occasion and presented to Llanfrynach captain Ioan Edwards by Talybont Ospreys captain Tom Short.

Captain of the newly formed Talybont Ospreys, Tom Short said: “The result of the game wasn’t the main concern for any. The game ended in high spirits and all are looking forward to the return fixture next year.”
